Reviews

  • I bought the Surface 3 to replace my high-end Lenovo laptop and my original Surface RT, and I must admit I wasn’t sure it would work. I don’t do much demanding work (I mostly read, surf, and write long Word documents using a separate reference manager). However, I recently started running agent-based simulations in 3D as part of my research (I’m a college prof). To summarize my experience, I’m very impressed. I have had no problems at all. It works great, is fast, responsive, and beautiful. It runs my simulations with no problem whatsoever. There are, from my point of view, two “problems” with this fantastic machine: (1) it lacks a gps (a potential problem when using offline directions), and (2) it scares the living daylight out of me too frequently. #2 is simply because I’m used to having a laptop – small and “light,” but nowhere close to as light as the S3 – in my bag. Pretty much every time I pick up my bag, I think I’ve forgotten my computer somewhere. That’s how light the Surface 3 is…
  • I had the first generation Surface and I loved it! I traded up for the new Surface 3. This is much thinner and lighter! I have an iPad Air also, but seldom use it. This thing does it all, and more. From edge to edge – it’s bigger too! the only negative things I would say is that it lost the great magnetic power plug from the First Gen Surface. But, I can live with the USB plug – more universal. And then secondly, the first gen Surface had the instant-on capability. Which was probably due to the Windows RT operating system. But, this Surface, being full windows, take about 6 seconds to turn on from a power off state.
  • bough the surface 3 over a month ago. I was about to return it but I only needed one full week to understand the functionality and down load all the updates. It is a great tool powerful enough that I am starting to skip my laptop
  • I have had this a little over a week now and I can not find any flaws in it yet. It is a little pricey, but works wonderfully. I’ve even loaded some kitchen graphics software on it that requires i5 or better and a separate graphics card; and it is handling that without any issues. I also have the Surface Pro 2 – and running them side by side, I will say in most instances the Surface 3 is faster. This is what they should have rolled out when they introduced the RT. Only complaint is price – when you include the keyboard and mouse it gets costly quickly. For the price, it should be offered with the keyboard and this would be an absolutely awesome machine.
  • I contemplated for a long time between the surface and surface pro. I planned on using it a lot as a laptop replacement. It’s not quite there as a full laptop replacement but its a fantastic hybrid for me. I still use my desktop PC for any major work major work i need to do or if i need to be on the PC for an extended period of time. The times when i just need my daily computing its my go to device, windows 10 runs very smooth on it and i havent had any issues with the hardware. I went with the 4GB ram and 128GB hdd. Mostly because i am a huge multitasker and leave multiple things open i was worried the 2GB wouldnt handle that as well. I dont do a lot of resource intensive multitasking and the atom cpu seems to hold up just fine. My only gripe is the app store lacks any huge hits and variety so it hasnt given me that tablet experience of i need to take this everywhere but it has an enjoyable selection i have just found it much more useful in a desktop-like mode with the keyboard attached and a usb mouse. Although even with a mouse attached i have learned to develop a hybrid for navigation between keyboard/mouse/touchscreen to get around quickest. I highly recommend and for daily computing i recommend the surface 3 over surface pro3. Both have their place. Fantastic product and is very enjoyable to use.
  • I bought this so I could have windows 10 and have a good computer for college. I traded in my old apple computer and since I have made the switch I couldn’t be happier. This is a great computer/tablet. I can steam movie and play the games I want. I also like that it works with my xbox one. It is perfect for class and taking notes. One note is the best because I love to handwrite notes.
  • I have not made the time to fully test the Surface3, but my initial usage I am pleased with. Moving from the RT to the 3, I was surprised the ‘home’ button moved from the bottom to the right. As a lefty, I wished the port to charge was on the left, but as the title says, first 30 days. Also, at least on mine, the plug into the unit for charging appears to be not square. It does connect well, but look like it would unplug easily.
  • Tried for eight hours to work this laptop. Finally screen went totally black, thought the battery died, charged it overnight and next morning, screen was still totally black. I guess I got a lemon. I sent everything back after much contact with company
