- a cinch to assemble, numbered parts, and a page of #d pieces in instruction book. Not many pieces either. These bookcases (3) DELIGHT me and we have ordered a 4th one. (We have lots of books and these cases look like you’re in the library! They’re made well, not of flimsy material. I’ll think twice about Sauder from now on!
- Had a tough time deciding between this unit and a similar bookcase that cost $1000. Glad I saved my money, this bookcase is actually pretty nice for $179. Came with a few dents and scratches in the finish, most of which are not in noticeable places. Went together easily, but be careful with the top and bottom moldings as it takes patience to match up the mitered corners. If you want to place heavy items on the shelves, beware that the load limit per cubby is 25 lbs. and that nothing should be placed on the top of the unit (according to the assembly instructions). Instructions also warned that the back of the unit (basically a large sheet of cardboard) must be nailed on or the shelves could collapse. So, don’t buy this unit if you want to place stuff on the very top or like a see-through-to-the-wall look because these shelves can’t be used that way safely.
- We bought 2 of these bookcases for our office and I love the color and that they are heavy! Assembly was no joke though took 2 hours for the first one and an hour and a half for the second….
- I have been waiting over a week with parts all over the floor, waiting for a replacement part that was damaged when it arrived. So far, the instructions for assembly are unclear and the assembly process has been trial and error. Some parts are marked clearly. Some are not. For example: Some boards are marked with a printed sticker on the face of the board. Others have an ink stamp on the non-veneer edge of the board which is hard to see because of the wood texture. The parts feel sturdy and I believe it will be a good value once it is in use. It is very heavy and not easily handled by one person. Some stages of assembly also require a second person or a single person with four arms, two of which are very long. Sauder seems to have more than one quality product. This line of Barrister products seems better than most of their furniture.
- It’s tall, spacious, practical, and a great sophisticated addition to our home office. It’s not very deep, just enough for one row of items. It seems very sturdy but I cannot comment on durability as it hasn’t been in use for long. I am more impressed them with previous bookcases. My only complaints are one steel dowel piece was missing it screwing portion — luckily it was just for the top molding to attach and not a weight bearing portion but still inconvenient and a pain that when you are making it and a piece is misshapen and affect the whole structure. The notecard tabs were missing also.
- Bought for daughters apartment, for extra storage. Matched her coffee and end tables (purchased at another store) to a tee. On top of that, the amount of storage is great. Nice a sturdy. Love the look.
- Purchased 2 had to return one due to being damaged. Very sturdy. Took about 2 hours to put together. Very clear instructions. If you want the look of a rustic luxe bookcase but don’t want to spend 1,000.00 this is the one to buy
- Bought it online and they said it would be here in a week. 2 days later a big box sitting on my porch. Took 2 hours to put together. Holes predrilled and parts easy to identify. Put bottom shelf in backwards then noticed. Opps 2 minute fix. Would have liked more cap covers, it came with five and could have used 11 more. Overall, we love it. Ordered the dresser to match but will be picking that up at the store so we don’t have to pay extra freight charges.
- My husband and I bought the Salt Oak Desk and we found this bookcase to coordinate back. We loved the size and all the storage it offered. It looks expensive like the ones you see at the furniture stores. It comes in 1 box and my husband put it together in an hour. It has made a great addition in our office.
- I wanted to like this bookshelf. It came fast but…nicks and dents in the pressboard where joints meet. Instructions could have been much easier with a little more common sense. It took much longer to put together because of the unclear instructions. The cubbies are very shallow so be careful what size book you want to put in them. I have some photo books that do not fit. There is an edge across the front with the labels that limits how your books fit. You either can put your book behind the edge or you lay your book over the edge. I did not put on the back because that futher shortened the depth I needed for my photo albums. After all the work of putting it together it is very wobbly. I mean like not safe type wobbly. My husband it going to screw brackets on both sides of each shelf so it might be a little sturdier? I like the finish and the look of the shelf but I didn’t expect it to be so wobbly and the depth so short for my photo albums. I probably would not buy it again even though I wanted to like it!
